Andy Hunter Named to Academic All-District Team

Minnesota senior first baseman Andy Hunter (West St. Paul, Minn.) was named to the Academic All-District Team on Thursday, May 11.

It marks the third straight year Hunter has received Academic All-District honors. Hunter has also been named an Academic All-American twice in his career. In 2004, Hunter was named a Second-Team Academic All-American. He followed that up with third-team honors in 2005. Academic All-American teams for 2006 will be announced later this month.

Hunter enters the week leading the team in batting average (.344), home runs (5), RBI (36), on-base percentage (.441), walks (27) and hits (56). He is second in the Big Ten in walks, ninth in RBI, tied for 10th in on-base percentage and tied for seventh in home runs.

He is also batting .350 with 21 runs, three homers and 20 RBI in Big Ten play. Hunter also has a .455 on-base percentage in Big Ten play.

Hunter has garnered All-Big Ten honors in all three of his previous seasons at Minnesota. He was named Second-Team All-Big Ten as a designated hitter in 2003, First-Team All- Big Ten as a first baseman in 2004 and Third-Team All-Big Ten as a first baseman in 2005.
