STUDENT-ATHLETES PROVIDING LESSONS

It is permissible for student-athletes to provide individual lessons for a fee, as long as certain stipulations are met:
  • U of M facilities cannot be used – this includes Rec Sports Facilities and U of M fields that do not require a fee.
  • Simply playing the sport is not considered a permissible lesson; instruction must take place.
  • The lessons are in individual settings – group lessons are not permitted.
  • The student-athlete must submit records to the compliance office regarding the recipient of the lesson and the fee.
  • The fee must be paid by the recipient of the lesson or the recipient’s family.
  • The student-athlete may not use his name or image in conjunction with or as a promotional tool to advertise the availability of teaching lessons.
International Student-Athletes, by the terms of their Non-Resident Student Visa are generally precluded from giving lessons. International Student-Athletes should check with ISSS to securing any type of employment. (The terms of a student-visa preclude off-campus employment of any kind)
