Mikayla Rogers to Join Golden Gopher Women's Tennis Team

Head Coach Tyler Thomson has announced that Mikayla Rogers (Salem, Ore.) has been accepted to the University of Minnesota and will join the Golden Gopher women’s tennis team in the fall semester. A four-time letterwinner at Sprague High School, Rogers is currently ranked 27th in singles and eighth in doubles in the USTA Pacific Northwest Region.
The 2006 Salem Senior Athlete of the Year and Statesmen Journal Tennis Player of the Year, Rogers played at No. 1 singles for three years at Sprague. This past season, she captured the district championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oregon State Girls Tennis Tournament. In 2005, Rogers finished 10th in the Pacific Northwest Region in singles and captured the consolation title at the state tournament.
“I’m very pleased that Mikayla chose Minnesota,” Thomson said. “Coupled with her positive attitude, Mikayla’s passion for the game will lead her toward a great career as a Golden Gopher.”
