Victor Almstrom Selected For International European Amateur Championship

University of Minnesota men's golfer Victor Almstrom has been selected by the Swedish Golf Federation to represent Sweden at the 2006 International European Amateur Championship. The 72 hole stroke play event will be held at Biella Golf Club Italy August 23-26.

Almstrom completed his freshman year in 2006 and was a starter for the Gopher golf team that finished third at the NCAA Championships in early June. The native of Vallingby, Sweden, Almstrom played in 10 tournaments, including the entire spring schedule, and recorded two top-10 finishes. Almstrom finished tied for 70th at athe NCAA Championships and his 74.88 stoke average was fifth on the team.

Almstrom is one of six players selected for the Swedish team. Other players selected for Sweden include All-Americans Nicklas Lemke of Arizona State and Oscar Floren from Texas Tech.
