The University of Minnesota men's golf team announced the addition of Justin Kaplan to its 2006-07 recruiting class. Kaplan, a native of Sugarland Texas, is the fourth member of the recruiting class joining Thomas Campbell of New Zealand, Yu Katayama from Tokyo, Japan and Ben Pisani of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
A graduate of Clements High School, Kaplan is the Texas Region III Champion and was named to the All-District Team after finishing second in District 5A. He tied for sixth at the Texas Class 5A State High School Tournament. Kaplan won six tournaments during his high school career and had 10 other top-five finishes. This summer Kaplan tied for 35th at a Hooters Tour event in Haughton, La., with a 7-under-par score. He was the only amateur to make the cut.
"We're delighted Justin chose to become a Gopher," head coach Brad James said. "He definitely has the game to play at this level and he is among a group of players we signed this year we feel can keep our program at the elite level of collegiate golf."
