Golden Gopher senior Bronson La'Cassie tied for fifth in the strokeplay portion of the United States Amateur Championship with a score of 1-under 142 today in Chaska. La'Cassie, from Brisbane, Australia, fired a second round 68 at Chaska Town Course and finished four strokes behind strokeplay medalist Billy Horschel.
La'Cassie advances to matchplay which begins tomorrow at Hazeltine National. La'Cassie carded a 74 at Hazeltine on Monday. Tuesday's round at Chaska Town was business as usual for the Western Amateur Champ. He carded five birdies on the day opposed to two bogeys and shot a pair of 34s on each side.
Senior Niall Turner wasn't as fortunate as La'Cassie and faltered Tuesday with an 80 on the course the Gopher men's golf team nicknamed "The Rock", Hazeltine National. Turner missed the cut by three strokes and tied for 108th at 7-over 150. Former Gopher Ryan Paulson also struggled at Hazeltine with an 86 Tuesday.
Another former Gopher Antti Ahokas carded a 1-under 70 at Chaska Town Course and finished strokeplay tied for 12th making the cut easily. The Finlander combined his 70 today with a 73 at Hazeltine yesterday and was at even par 143 during strokeplay.
First round matches can be seen on the Golf Channel tomorrow beginning at 3 p.m. Central.
