University of Minnesota men's golfer Bronson La'Cassie lost in the Round of 32 at the United States Amateur Championship in Chaska. La'Cassie lost to Mark Strickland in 19 holes at Hazeltine National. La'Cassie was dormie on the 17th hole, but bogeyed the par 3, 17th hole and the par 4, 18th to force extra holes. On the 19th hole, Strickland birdied to win the match.

The loss ended a superb summer for the rising senior who is ranked among the top 15 Amateur players in the world. Earlier this summer, he won the Western Amateur defeating 2006 NCAA Player of the Year Pablo Martin in the final match.

Former Gopher Antti Ahokas also lost today, 2 and 1 to Richie Ramsey of Wales.

Minnesota opens its fall season in the Gopher Invitational at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata on Sept. 16-17.
