9/2/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Cross Country
The Gold squad defeated the Maroon squad by a score of 23-32. The Gold squad placed three runners in the top five, including Albertson-Junkans, Cheever, and Gabriele Anderson, who finished fifth in a time of 19:06.
“It’s always a collective sigh of relief after the intrasquad race,” said head coach Gary Wilson. “I think everyone did wonderful for the intrasquad. This can be the most stressful race of the season, everyone is trying to find their way. I think they did a marvelous job. Of course, our front group is excellent.”
Wilson is pleased with the depth of his squad, and the results of the underclassmen. Of the top 20 finishers, 16 are freshmen or sophomores. Five of the top 10 finishers are first-year cross country competitors. Jamie Cheever is a sophomore, but competed on the Gopher soccer team last fall, and is running in her first cross country season. Fourth-place finisher Elizabeth Yetzer and 10th-place finisher Amy Laskowske are both true freshmen. Sixth-place runner Heather Dorniden and ninth-place Megan Duwell redshirted the 2005 season and have freshmen eligibility in 2006.
