Minnesota Baseball to Host Fall Game on Sept. 30

The Minnesota baseball team will host the annual fall intersquad game on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m. at Siebert Field. The Golden Gophers will split the full roster into two squads that will play against each other.

Minnesota will have 20 letterwinners returning from a team that advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship for a conference-record sixth straight season.

The Golden Gophers also welcome seven true freshmen to the program and a junior college transfer. Minnesota also has 11 seniors returning this season, nine juniors and seven sophomores.

Highlighting the returnees is one All-Big Ten returnee and two Big Ten All-Tournament honorees. Minnesota returns seniors Dan Lyons (Rochester, Minn.) and Kyle Baran (Apple Valley, Minn.) who were named to the 2006 Big Ten All-Tournament team, along with Freshman All-American Matt Nohelty (Rothschild, Wis.). Junior Dustin Brabender (Oregon, Wis.) is also the top returning starting pitcher after going 6-5 with a 3.96 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 77.1 innings of work.

Last season, the Golden Gophers were 34-26 overall and finished fourth in the Big Ten with a 17-14 conference record. Minnesota also advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship for a conference-record sixth year in a row.
