Kelly Roysland Out 2-4 Weeks With Injury

The youthful Golden Gopher women’s basketball team will play the next 2-4 weeks without its lone senior and team captain Kelly Roysland, who suffered a broken collarbone in Minnesota’s 80-78 overtime victory at Iowa on Thursday. Roysland’s injury will be evaluated on a weekly basis to determine her return to action.

Royland left the game with nine minutes left in the second half, and after scoring 10 points in the contest, only three points from her 1,000th career point as a Golden Gopher. Roysland is Minnesota’s leading scoring this season averaging 14.6 points per game.

Minnesota head coach Pam Borton called the injury to Roysland an unfortunate case of déjà vu in the post-game press conference, reflecting on Roysland’s freshman season when it was she who stepped in to start for an injured senior captain, Lindsay Whalen. Roysland started seven games in Whalen’s stead and averaged 8.4 points per game.
