Certified Eligibility List (CEL)
Under Big Ten rules, prior to the first competition in each sport, institutions must certify all student-athlete’s eligibility to compete. This Certified Eligibility List (CEL) is prepared by Emily Wood in our office and must be signed by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, Faculty Athletics Representative and the Registrar prior to being submitted to the Big Ten Office.
Coaches, staff and administrators are reminded that they must receive and review this CEL prior to allowing any student-athletes to compete (home competitions) or travel with the team (away competitions). Ultimately, it is the head coach’s responsibility to ensure that they have received and reviewed the CEL prior to traveling or allowing a student-athlete to compete.
For those sports that have not already started competing, you will receive a draft CEL from Emily to review. In addition, you will receive the final CEL prior to your first competition for the fall semester.
