POSTGAME QUOTES

Minnesota 3, Alaska Anchorage 0

Minnesota Head Coach Don Lucia
On game:
“I thought we played well.  I thought the defense did a good job breaking the puck out of our own zone.  Jeff played well in net.  We did not give up a power play goal.  I thought we did a good job generating good scoring chances.  I liked the way we played from start to finish and it was nice to see us finish off a game.”

On David Fischer’s Goal:
“We worked on that a lot, shooting.  That was an important first goal.  It was nice for him to finally get that first goal. I’m sure it was a big relief for David.”

On numerous scoring chances:
“You start to wonder you look up with 28 shots on goal after two.  We had good scoring chances, and they made big saves.  Once we got the second one I felt pretty comfortable.”

On team improvement:
“I thought we are getting better in certain areas, the puck movement, we had good scoring chances, Kyle had that nice tic-tac toe play, you know things that we have been working on and it’s nice to see the guys doing what we’ve been doing Monday through Thursday come out Friday and Saturday in the game.”

On team’s play:
“I thought we did a nice job not turning it over.  I thought we did a good job stretching some guys.  I thought our defenseman and our center did a good job breaking us out of our own zone.”

Right Defense David Fischer
On his first goal of the season
“It had been a while since I had scored a goal and I thought that maybe I would not get one this season. Luckily, Ben Gordon and Blake Wheeler made some great passes to set me up for my first goal of the season. It was a great feeling to score the opening goal, especially since it had been about a year and half since the last time I had scored.”

On Minnesota’s performance
“Overall, we had a great team effort in the 3-0 victory. The defense played very well and we had some good goaltending. We have really picked up our play over the past few games and as a result we are controlling the tempo of the game. However, we need to keep working hard so that we can continue the excellent play in the future.”

Goaltender Jeff Frazee
On Minnesota’s performance
“I thought that we played a great game tonight. The defense did an excellent job, which help lead to the shutout. We were able to play our rough style of play and get the victory.”

On his performance in goal
“Alaska’s goaltender was playing very well and as a result I knew I had to step up my game. I felt comfortable in goal, which I had not been in the past few games. As a result, I had a great game in goal and I was able to get a shutout.”
