The University of Minnesota divers finished the second day of the three-day Hoosierland Open, today in Bloomington, Ind. For the second straight day, sophomore diver Jacqueline Schroeder placed fifth in an event, this time in the 3-meter event.
Schroeder improved in every round she competed in, finishing fifth overall. Schroeder held a prelim score of 235.35 to finish 13th. She improved her score in the semifinals when she placed eighth with a score of 245.00. Just like yesterday, Schroeder saved her best performance for the finals when she held a score of 264.70 to finish fifth. She was the second-highest finish in the Big Ten behind NCAA All-American Brittney Feldman, who is a member of the Indiana Hoosiers. Marisa Samaniego from UCLA won the event with a score of 310.10 in the finals.
Alex Barstad just missed making the semifinals by six points with an incorrect dive in the 6th round when she was forward on her reverse twister and was unable to get back in balance and held a prelim score of 216.20. Hillary Provo finished 25th overall with a score of 209.00, while Maggie Thomas finished 26th with a score of 207.05. Taylor Enerson placed 35th overall with a score of 161.10.
"Overall, I was pleased with how the women dove today," head coach Jason Baumann said. "Jaq was a standout and Alex just missed her last dive in the prelims. Both Hillary, Maggie, and Taylor continue to improve and this experience will serve all of them well, when we get to the Big Ten Championships at the end of the year. We have one more event tomorrow, which is platform. I am excited to see how the women rise to the challenge of the platform event on day 3 of a meet like this. It can be a grueling experience, but our divers are tough and we will see how tomorrow goes."
