Chris Ashton is entering his ninth season as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Minnesota working with the Golden Gopher Football team.

Ashton, a Wheeling, WV native, graduated from West Virginia University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree Physical Education in Athletic Training. Ashton is familiar with the Big Ten, working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the University of Michigan football program from 2000-2002. He received his Masters' of Science degree in Kinesiology from Michigan in April 2002 prior to his arrival at Minnesota.

Ashton has presented twice at the National Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Convention.  In 2002 Ashton presented on "Acute Neurological Symptoms in a Collegiate Football Player".  In 2008 he presented a case study on "Blunt Chest Trauma in a Collegiate Football Player".  He also presented at the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association Annual Symposium in 2009, "Athletic Pubialgia: The Terrible Triad of the Hip".

Chris and his fiancé, Kayla Olsen, reside in New Brighton, MN.  They are planning a May 2011 wedding.
