The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that freshman forward Emily West (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned the Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance against North Dakota last weekend. With her honor, West becomes the league's first freshman to earn WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors this season and is the sixth Minnesota student-athlete to earn a weekly honor this year. Her honor also marks the second straight weekend a Golden Gopher has earned an award after Jen Schoullis earned rookie of the week accolades last week.

In the first game last Saturday, West assisted on the game-winning goal as well as the Gophers’ power-play goal in their 5-1 win over UND. She then followed with a two-goal performance on Sunday in the 5-3 win over the Fighting Sioux. Her two goals came on five shots for a .400 shooting percentage Sunday. Over the weekend, the Pine Creek High School graduate had seven shots on goal and held a plus/minus rating of +2. In one weekend, West nearly doubled her point total, entering the series with five points. She now has five goals and four assists for nine points, which ranks sixth on the team in scoring. In WCHA rookie scoring, West ranks seventh overall. West beat out Saara Tuominen (Minnesota Duluth), Felicia Nelson (St. Cloud State), Erin Keys (Ohio State), Jodi Holland (North Dakota) and Maggie Fisher (Minnesota State) for the honor.

West and the Gophers host for the second straight weekend as Bemidji State comes to town, Nov. 30-Dec . 1. Friday's contest begins at 6 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. game Saturday at Ridder Arena.
