Throughout the 2007 Minnesota Soccer season, gophersports.com will regularly post web "diary" entry from Golden Gophers Sara Johnson and Kaitlin Wagner. Today, Sara gives us her tenth diary entry of the 2007 season, previewing the Gophers' Big Ten Tournament match-up with Illinois on Thursday. Kick-off will be at 8 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
After a disappointing loss Friday night to the Iowa Hawkeyes 1-0, we now have to put that behind us as we start preparing for Illinois and the Big Ten Tournament. Thursday, we will kick off at 8 p.m. This year we host the tournament at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. It’s great to be hosting and able to play at home! We get to sleep in our own beds, consume our own food and play in front of our crowd. It’s an honor to host the tournament and hopefully we can put a little run together just in time!
This will be our second appearance in the Big Ten Tournament in my four years. The first time we went back in 2005 we also faced Illinois in the first round. I think many are excited we face them again, as we did not have our best performance against them earlier this season. We live for second chances so hopefully we can perform to our ability and come out on top.
There will be a lot of soccer to watch this weekend. There are eight great teams coming to play so hopefully everyone can make out and support us as we look to contend for a Big Ten Championship. Hope to see you all there!
