Jenny Shaughnessy Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

Junior swimmer Jenny Shaughnessy was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for her performace against No.11 North Carolina last weekend. It was the first honor for Shaughnessy and the Gophers' second selection of the season.
Shaughnessy, a team co-captain, claimed a victory in three of her four events to help Minnesota overtake North Carolina by a score of 208.5-160.5. Her times in the 200- (2:03.30) and 400-yard individual medleys (4:20.25) and 200 freestyle (1:48.90) were season bests and all meet the NCAA B’ standard. The Rochester, Minn., native also participated on the first-place 800 free relay squad, which posted a B’ standard time of 7:23.08.
Shaughnessy and the rest of the Golden Gophers will compete in the Minnesota Grand Prix, Nov. 9-11 at the University Aquatic Center. Many swimming greats will also be competing at the event, including, U.S. Olympians Kara Lynn Joyce, Klete Keller, Ryan Lochte, Kaitlin Sandeno, Scott Usher, Peter Vanderkaay and World Championship members Jessica Hardy, Kate Ziegler, Whitney Myers.
