Ohio State Tops Indiana 2-1 in Overtime

Ashley Bower scored in the 97th minute to advance Ohio State to the semifinals of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament. Lara Dickenmann crossed the ball towards Bower, who tapped it into the bottom right corner. The Buckeyes’ overtime goal gave Ohio State the 2-1 victory.

In the first half, Carla Arbulu of Ohio State made what turned out to be a game-saving play in the 30th minute. Indiana’s Jessica Boots laid a pass towards Katy Stewart, who shot at the Buckeye goal. Arbulu was there to make a header save to keep the score at 0-0.

In the second half Indiana broke the stalemate with a goal by Lindsay McCarthy in the 53rd minute. Teammate Kristin Arnold played a free kick towards McCarthy, who laid the ball in to put the Hoosiers up 1-0. Three minutes later the Buckeyes struck with a goal of their own in the to tie the score to 1-1. Dickenmann laid out the pass towards Courtney Jenkins who then fired a left-footed shot from 30 yards out to beat Indiana keeper Lauren Hollandsworth. The goal was Jenkins’ fourth goal of the season. Neither team could add another score, leaving the score 1-1 at the end of regulation.

In overtime Indiana had the first chance to get the golden goal with a shot by Jocelyn Moses, but her was just wide of the mark. Just a few minutes later, Dickenmann was able to hook up with Bower to win the game for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State will face top seed Penn State Friday at 5 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The game will be shown on tape delay via the Big Ten Network.
