Purdue defeated Illinois 3-0 Friday night to advance to the Big Ten Tournament Championship. The Boilermakers controlled the tempo of the game, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. Purdue's defense allowed seven shots and only three of them on goal.

Purdue's first goal came in the 10th minute when midfielder Kalie Grambeau passed a through ball for forward Loredana Riverso. Riverso took a shot off the post that saw the ball fall into the back of the net, notching her third goal of the tournament.

Three minutes later the Boilermakers added a second when midfielder Shauna Stapleton picked up a loose ball and fired a shot down the middle past Illinois keeper Lindsey Carstens.

In the second half the Illini threatened, when a loose ball in front of the Purdue goal was cleared by the Boilermakers, as Illinois was unable to capitalize on the scoring chance. Another chance for the Illini came in the 60th minute when midfielder Cory Steigerwald saw her shot controlled by Purdue keeper Jenny Bradfisch.

With about six minutes remaining in the game Purdue added a third goal. Forward Jessica Okoroafo picked up a loose ball as keeper Carstens came well out of the goal area. Okoroafo dribbled in and shot on an open goal, her seventh score of the season.

Purdue will face Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament Championship match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The game will be shown live via the Big Ten Network.
