The University of Minnesota women's hockey team received its highest ranking of the season, holding fourth place in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Golden Gophers, who at one point were the 10th-ranked team in the nation, have edged their way into the top four spots by the end of the first half.

With a 13-4-1 overall record, Minnesota held 100 points in the USCHO.com poll and 124 in the USA Today poll to move up to fourth overall. New Hampshire, who defeated Harvard earned the top spot, followed by Minnesota Duluth in second and the Crimson in third. Following the Gophers' fourth-place showing is Mercyhurst and St. Lawrence in fifth and sixth place. Among other WCHA teams, Wisconsin is currently ranked seventh overall, while St. Cloud State is ranked 10th.

With a majority of the Division I women's hockey teams on hiatus until the new year, it will be the final polls of the 2007 calendar year. Minnesota will remain the No. 4 team in the country when it competes against Wayne State on Jan. 5-6 in Detroit, Mich. The Gophers' next home action is Jan. 12-13 when Boston College comes to town. Both games are at 1 p.m. at Ridder Arena.
