Men's Gymnasts Compete at Winter Cup

University of Minnesota men’s gymnasts competed at the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev.
Guillermo Alvarez placed third in the all-around at the Winter Cup with a score of 176.700, trailing only Sean Townsend of HGA/GymMasters, who won the event with a score of 177.150, and David Sender of Stanford, who took second in the all-around with a 176.950. Jake Lee finished 28th in the all-around with a 111.600, while Cole Storer took 33rd with an 88.150.
Alvarez took second on the pommel horse with a two-day score of 29.550, while Clay Strother took ninth in the event with a 28.50. Lee took 17th on horse with a 27.40. Alvarez would also post a top-10 score on vault with a third-place finish (31.90) and on rings, taking 10th with a 29.45. Alvarez also placed 15th on the high bar with a 28.15 to take 15th and was 16th on floor exercise with a 28.20.
Storer tied for fourth on the floor exercise and led the Gophers with a two-day score of 29.70, while taking 15th on vault with a 30.50. Strother would give the Gophers their highest score on parallel bars with a sixth place finish and score of 29.85.
