Meet Preview: Gophers Host NCAA Championships

The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team is set to host the 2021 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships this weekend at Maturi Pavilion April 16-17.

The first day of competition on April 16 will consist of two sessions of competition, with each session featuring six teams, as well as individual national qualifiers. Session 1 will begin at 1:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, while Session 2, which will feature the Maroon & Gold, will begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT. Both sessions will be streamed live on BTN+.

Day two of the NCAA Championships will wrap up the weekend on April 17 with the team final, all-around final, and event championships. Saturday's final day of competition will begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT, and will be televised on Big Ten Network.

The Gophers currently rank as the No. 10 team in the nation according to Road to Nationals heading into the competition. The team is coming off of performance at the Big Ten Championships in which the Maroon & Gold wound up finishing sixth as a team, with senior Shane Wiskus winning a total of four individual Big Ten titles, including a share of the all-around crown.

Teams competing in Friday's Session 1 at 1:00 p.m. CDT include: Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, Illinois, Navy, and William & Mary.

Teams competing in Friday's Session 2 at 7:00 p.m. CDT include: Minnesota, Michigan, Stanford, Penn State, Iowa, and California.

Gophers in the Rankings

Minnesota finished ranked No. 10 in the final Road to Nationals rankings of the year prior to the NCAA Championships, and sat at No. 9 in the final CGA Coaches Poll of the year. Team event rankings for the Gophers are as follows: tenth on floor exercise, twelfth on pommel horse, ninth on still rings, ninth on vault, sixth on parallel bars, and eighth on high bar.
