4/6/2021 1:39:00 PM | Men's Gymnastics
Shane Wiskus was tabbed as the Co-Gymnast of the Week the College Gymnastics Association announced on Tuesday.
Wiskus is coming off a weekend in which he was the Big Ten Co-Champion for the all-around competition, and won an additional three Big Ten individual event titles at the Big Ten Championships this past Saturday. Cameron Bock of Michigan, who was the other Big Ten all-around co-champion, also earned Co-Gymnast of the Week honors.
Saturday marked many firsts for both Wiskus and the Gophers, as the four titles collected by Wiskus marked the first four Big Ten championships of his career. Wiskus also was the first Golden Gopher to win the Big Ten all-around title since John Roethlisberger in 1993, and was the first Big Ten gymnast since 2000 to win four conference titles (including the all-around title) at one Big Ten Championships. The Big Ten Conference went on to name Wiskus as the Big Ten Gymnast of the Championships following his performance.
Wiskus finished the all-around competition with a new career high score of 84.700, which was enough to tie Michigan senior Cameron Bock for the all-around title. This marks the first time since 1957 and the second time in Big Ten history that there has been a tie for the all-around title. The other events Wiskus captured the Big Ten Championship in were floor exercise (14.750), parallel bars (14.400), and high bar (14.050).
Following a weekend off, Wiskus and the Gophers will close out their season by hosting the 2021 NCAA Championships at Maturi Pavilion April 16-17.
