STORYLINES
• Minnesota had a tough last week, playing No. 3 Wisconsin and No. 2 Ohio State back-to-back. The Gophers lost 85-67 to the Buckeyes on Sunday. Indiana was defeated at Michigan 58-55 on Saturday.
• Indiana leads the all-time series 83-57 (not including vacated games). Minnesota has won four of the last five match-ups.
• The Gophers defeated the Hoosiers, 61-42, in the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 29, 2006 in Minneapolis.
• Junior Lawrence McKenzie set Minnesota’s all-time records for three-pointers in a season (73) and three-point attempts in a season (191) in the Gophers’ game against Ohio State. McKenzie surpassed Michael Bauer’s totals of 71 three-pointers made and190 attempts in 2002-03.
• Sophomore Jamal-Abu Shamala is shooting .420 for the season in three-pointers.
The Matchup
The Gophers have lost five straight Big Ten games dating to Feb. 3. Indiana has lost two straight conference match-ups: on the road at Pudue (81-68) on Feb. 15 and on the road at Michigan (58-55) on Feb. 17. The Hoosiers dropped out of the national rankings this week after being ranked No. 24 in the AP poll the week before.
SCOUTING the Hoosiers
Coach Kelvin Sampson has Indiana on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament in his first year with the program. Former Big Ten Freshman of the Year D.J. White is the Hoosiers’ leader in his junior season, averaging a team-high 13.8 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. White is the only player to start every game this season, while 11 different players have started for Sampson in an equal-opportunity lineup. Senior Roderick Wilmont is the only other Hoosier who averages in double figures, with 12.2 points a game.
