Gophers Fall at Indiana

3/4/2026 7:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Cade Tyson scored 21 points and Isaac Asuma had 13 points, but Indiana (18-12, 9-10 Big Ten) shot 57 percent and made 10-of-24 three-pointers to snap a four-game skid with a 77-47 win over Minnesota (14-16, 7-12 Big Ten) at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The teams split the season series, as the Gophers recorded a 73-64 win over then-No. 22 Indiana on Dec. 3 at Williams Arena.

Tyson's 20-point outing was his 14th game this season with 20 or more points, including two games with 30-plus, and he has scored in double-figures in all 29 games in which he's played this season. He finished the game 7-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Asuma, who reached double-figures for the 10th-straight game, added four rebounds and a pair of assists to his point total. Bobby Durkin added six points and a team-high eight rebounds, Langston Reynolds had five points and three assists, and Grayson Grove had six boards and two points for the Gophers.

Minnesota made 17-of-53 (.321) field goals, including 5-of-21 (.238) from beyond the three-point arc, and 8-of-12 free throws. Indiana was red-hot on its home court, as the Hoosiers made 31-of-54 (.574) field goals, including their 10 three-pointers, and 5-of-8 free throws, while holding a 37-24 advantage on the glass. Sam Alexis led IU with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Lamar Wilkerson made four three-pointers and finished with 16 points, Tucker DeVries had 13 points, nine boards, and five assists, and Nick Dorn had 11 points.

A pair of layups from Asuma tied the score at 4-4 early, but the Hoosiers went on a 7-0 run over the next minute and a half to build an 11-4 lead with 15:43 remaining. Tyson hit a 15-foot turnaround jumper to pull the Gophers within five, but Wilkerson made his second three-pointer for a 14-6 IU lead. Alexis added a layup and a dunk for IU's second 7-0 run, forcing Niko Medved to call timeout with the Gophers trailing 18-6 with 12:22 remaining in the half. Minnesota opened the game just 3-of-13 from the field, including 0-of-6 from three-point range. Indiana extended its lead to 20-6 before Tyson's three-point play, followed by a three-pointer, cut it to 20-12 with 10:57 left.

Durkin joined the scoring with a three from the wing to cut it to 22-15, and Asuma went 1-of-2 at the line to cut it to a six-point game. A Tyson three-point play made it a 13-2 Gophers run over two-minutes, 51-seconds to cut it to 22-19, but two jumpers by Alexis extended the lead to 26-19. Tyson knocked down his second three to trim IU's lead to 26-22. The Hoosiers stretched the lead to 31-22, and Asuma cut it to seven with a floater in the lane, but an Alexis dunk put IU in front by nine points at the final media timeout of the half. A Grove layup and a Tyson floater in the lane cut it to 35-28, but Wilkerson and DeVries made three-pointers, and DeVries added a dunk to give the Hoosiers a 43-28 halftime lead.

Tyson made 6-of-11 field goals, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, to lead the Gophers with 16 points at the half, and Asuma added seven points. As a team, the Gophers made 11-of-30 (.367) field goals, including 3-of-14 (.214) from behind the arc, and 3-of-4 at the free throw line.

Alexis led IU with 17 first-half points, while Wilkerson had nine points, Dorn had eight, and DeVries added five points, five rebounds, and four assists. The Hoosiers made 18-of-29 (.621) field goals, including 6-of-13 (.462) from long-range, and 1-of-2 at the line, while holding a 16-15 rebounding edge. Indiana turned six Minnesota turnovers into a 12-3 advantage in points off TOs, and outscored the Gophers 24-14 in the paint in the first half.

The second half opened with the scoring going back and forth for the first four-plus minutes, with Tyson making his third three-pointer, but Indiana led 52-34 at the first media timeout with 14:42 remaining. A 6-3 Gophers run, including four points from Reynolds, cut it to 55-40, but the Hoosiers responded with a 14-0 run for a 29-point lead before Tyson ended IU's 14-0 run with two free throws with 5:55 left. The margin reached 32 points with 1:56 left, and the Hoosiers finished with the 77-47 win.
