2/27/2007 12:00:00 AM | Athletics
Dear former student-athlete,
The University of Minnesota Athletic Department is currently working on reviving its Pro Sports Counseling Panel and needs your help. The Compliance Office, led by Frank Kara and Jay Larson, is currently reviewing strategies for what services the Panel should provide, who should be on the Panel, and how to best serve the needs of current student-athletes seeking advice on going professional. By filling out this survey, you will give us invaluable feedback in this process. As a former student-athlete, you are one of our best resources in determining what the Panel can do to make the transition from intercollegiate to professional sports smoother for current and future student-athletes and we would greatly appreciate any advice or insight you have. The survey should not take more than a few minutes of your time.
As you may recall, the Pro Sports Counseling Panel provides student-athletes with free assistance and guidance in the process of pursuing a career in professional sports. Under NCAA Rule 11.1.4.1, an institution’s Professional Sports Counseling Panel or a head coach in a sport may contact agents, professional sports teams or professional sports organizations on behalf of a student-athlete, provided no compensation is received for such services.
NCAA Rule 12.3.4 empowers the Panel to help student-athletes with a variety of tasks, including:
If you have any questions, feel free to contract Frank Kara (karax001@umn.edu) or Jay Larson (lars1624@umn.edu) in the Compliance Office
Sincerely,
The University of Minnesota Athletic Department
