Unethical Conduct – NCAA Amateurism Clearinghouse
This January, the NCAA Board of Directors passed Proposal 2006-18, copied below. This new legislation is effective immediately.
∑ Unethical conduct shall include the failure to provide complete and accurate information to the NCAA, the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse or the institution's athletics department regarding an individual's amateur status; further, to specify that an institution is responsible for promptly reporting all discrepancies in information related to a student-athlete's amateurism certification to the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.
This means that all coaches and staff are responsible for reporting any information relating to a prospect’s amateur status to the Compliance Office. We will then forward this information to the NCAA Amateurism Clearinghouse.
As always, we are requesting that all potential international prospects coming to the U of M complete the NCAA Amateurism Form prior to arriving on campus. This form can be found on our website at the following link and should be forwarded to the Compliance Office: http://www.gophersports.com/pdf2/39795.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=8400
Please remember that the NCAA Amateurism Clearinghouse is an attempt to level the playing field with respect to international prospects and their ability to compete at collegiate institutions.
If you have any questions, please contact the Compliance Office.
