University of Minnesota junior forward Evan Kaufmann (Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the WCHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week, following Minnesota’s split last weekend against Michigan Tech at Mariucci Arena. Kaufmann scored four goals on the weekend, including his first career hat trick on Saturday. He shares this week’s award with Michigan Tech’s Justin St. Louis.
Kaufmann was far and away Minnesota’s best player in the regular season-ending split against the Huskies. In Friday’s 3-1 win to clinch the MacNaughton Cup for the second consecutive season, Kaufmann scored the game-winning goal with an even-strength tally at 17:14 of the second period. The game-winner was his second of the season. In Saturday’s 5-4 loss, he recorded his first career hat trick and second career three-point game. He scored Minnesota’s first (on the power play), third (even-strength) and fourth (extra attacker) goals to bring his season goal total to a career-best 11. For the weekend, Kaufmann had 10 shots and was +3. With the four-goal weekend, Kaufmann is now on a three-game goal streak (5-0--5). He owns totals of 11-4--15 to own career-highs in goals and points.
The award is the first career WCHA Player of the Week honor for Kaufmann.
