Derek Gearman Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

Minnesota senior Derek Gearman was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week after winning the high jump title at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., over the weekend. Gearman’s winning leap of 7 feet, 1/2 inch garnered the Lennox, S.D. native his third NCAA Midwest Region qualifying mark of the season in three separate jumping events. Previously, Gearman had qualified in the long jump and triple jump.

The Golden Gophers’ next competition is Saturday, April 21, at the Iowa Musco Twilight Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
