Gopher Swimming Inks Swedish Standout Emilia Nilsson

University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving co-head coaches Kelly Kremer and Terry Nieszner have announced that Emilia Nilsson from Linkoping, Sweden has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Gopher program in the fall of 2007.
Nilsson swims for Linkoping Allmanna swim club under the direction of coach Mikael Holmertz. Nilsson is a multiple gold, silver and bronze medalist at the Swedish National Championships since her time there from 2003-2007. Competing in the 100 butterfly, Nilsson earned a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in 2004. She will graduate from the National Science Program Gymnasium this June.
“Emilia brings great international swimming experience to our team,” Kremer and Nieszner said. She is so versatile and will help us in almost every stroke and distance. Emilia is a serious student athlete and we are excited that she has chosen to continue her academic and athletic career at Minnesota.”
