Aaron Buzard Wins 400 at Auburn Tiger Track Classic

Golden Gopher All-American Aaron Buzard kicked off his senior outdoor season in grand fashion winning the title in the 400-meter dash at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday. Buzard clocked a solid early-season time of 46.57 seconds, an NCAA Midwest Region Championships qualifier.
Derek Gearman added a regional qualifier in his second event of the outdoor season. After qualifying in the triple jump a week ago, Gearman bettered the regional standard in the long jump on Saturday with a leap of 24-9, tabbing a second-place finish.
Adam Schnaible placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 55-9 1/4, his second qualifying performance of the season in the event.
Additional Minnesota top-five finishes were turned in by Walter Langkau, Aaron Studt and the Gophers’ 4x400-meter relay. Langkau placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.32, while Studt was fifth in the discus with a throw of 151-6. The relay of Adewole Adebayo, Buzard, Langkau and Logan Stroman finished third with a time of 3:15.50.
Minnesota will compete in several meets next weekend, including the Sun Angel Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., and the Oklahoma Classic in Norman, Okla.
