Matt Nohelty Receives President’s Student Leadership Award

Minnesota sophomore Matt Nohelty (Rothschild, Wis.) was the only student from the College of Information Technology to receive the prestigious President’s Student Leadership Award. Overall, 43 undergraduate students were presented with award at the President’s Award Banquet in Coffman Memorial Union.

The annual award convention recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of outstanding student leaders to the University of Minnesota.

Nohelty is in his second season with the Golden Gophers baseball team. He is currently fifth in the Big Ten in stolen bases with 20. He also is second on the team in batting average (.369), tied for second in runs (39), tied for second in hits (58) and is second in on-base percentage (.448). In Big Ten play, Nohelty is batting .377 in Big Ten play, has 21 runs, 11 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .456 on-base percentage.

In his two seasons at Minnesota, the Golden Gophers are 55-23 with him as a leadoff hitter. He has also stolen 38 bases in his first two seasons at Minnesota. That is the most by a Golden Gopher in thhe first two years with the program, since Wes Denning stole 49 bases in his first two seasons in 1994 and 95.
