Hasling and Shaughnessy Named to the Academic All-District Teams

University of Minnesota swimmers Jenny Hasling and Jenny Shaughnessy have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Women's At-Large Academic All-District Teams, announced by Co-SIDA. The duo were two of 20 named to the first and second teams. Hasling, who was named to the first-team all-district will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, in which the honorees will be announced in June. Shaughnessy was a second-team all-district selection.
Hasling earned All-America honors this past season as a member of the 200 free relay. During her tenure at Minnesota, Hasling was a member of the 200 free relay that broke the school record three times (2004, 2006 and 2007). In her final season and as team captain, Hasling accomplished a personal best time in the 100 back in 54.13 at the 2007 NCAA Championships. She was also named the Gophers' hardest worker by her peers. Hasling was also a three-year member of the Academic All-Big Ten team.
Shaughnessy led the Gophers at the 2007 NCAA Championships, earning her first individual All-America honors when she set a school record in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.96. During the NCAA Championships, Shaughnessy set four school records (200 IM, 100 free, 200 free and 200 back) and earned three All-America honors. Along with her individual accomplishment, Shaughnessy led the Gophers to All-America status in the 400 and 800 free relays. Shaughnessy also earned First Team All-Big Ten for the second straight year when the Gophers won the Big Ten title in the 800 free relay. A stellar student as well, Shaughnessy was a member of the Academic All-Big Ten team.
