Men's Swimming & Diving Adds Two Rutgers Transfers

University of Minnesota men’s swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today the addition of Josh Griffey (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) and Stephen Miller (Windham, N.H.), both transfer student-athletes from Rutgers University. Both swimmers signed Acceptance of Admission forms to attend the U of M and will be eligible to compete in 2007-08. Rutgers dropped its men’s swimming and diving program following the 2006-07 season.

Griffey scored three times for the Scarlet Knights at the 2007 Big East Championships, finishing fourth in the 400 individual medley, ninth in the 200 IM and 12th in the 200 breaststroke. A very versatile swimmer, Griffey also placed third in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 200 back as a freshman at Rutgers.

Griffey was a 2005 graduate of Kenosha Tremper High School, where he was the Wisconsin State champion in the 200 IM as a senior. He owns top times of 1:51.11 in the 200 IM (short course yards), 3:56.95 in the 400 IM, 51.42 in the 100 back and 1:49.77 in the 200 back.

Miller also scored three times at the 2007 Big East Championships. He placed 10th in the 200 freestyle, 11th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 freestyle. He was a five-time New Hampshire State High School champion for Salem High School and was named the 2005 State Swimmer of the Year. Miller's top times are 21.37 in the 50 freestyle, 45.69 in the 100 free, 1:40.13 in the 200 free and 1:51.26 in the 200 IM.
