Minnesota senior Derek Gearman won the high jump at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, clearing a height of 6 feet, 8 inches. Gearman, a native of Lennox, S.D., was the only Golden Gopher competing at the meet, a competition Gearman traveled to in order to compete in his home state one more time before his collegiate career came to a close.

Gearman competed for two seasons at the U. of South Dakota before transferring to Minnesota a year ago. An NCAA Midwest Region qualifier in the long jump, triple jump and high jump, Gearman is expected to compete in all three events at next week’s (May 11-13) Big Ten Championships.
