Three Gopher Divers Compete At USA Diving National Preliminaries

University of Minnesota freshman diver Andrew Brown led a trio of Golden Gopher divers that competed at the USA Diving National Preliminaries Zone A meet in Rockville, Md. over the weekend. Brown advanced to the USA Diving National Championships in the 3-meter synchronized event. Junior Cole Young also qualified for U.S. Nationals on the 10-meter platform.
Brown, who will compete at the World University Games in Bangkok next month, finished second in the synchronized 3-meter springboard event with teammate Sean Moore with a score of 342.48, advancing them to the Kaiser Permanente USA Diving Nationals in California July 31-August 5. The duo will also represent the USA at the World University Games. Brown also placed 14th on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 272.60 and 22nd on the 3-meter springboard with a tally of 249.85.
Young earned a spot at U.S. Nationals with a fifth place finish on the platform. He tallied a score of 313.35. Young and Nathan Kim also finished third in the 3-meter synchronized event with a score of 306.51 to qualify for U.S. Nationals. Young also scored a 290.60 on the 3-meter to lead the Gophers in the event with a 10th place finish. He stood in ninth place after the quarterfinals with a tally of 303.20. He also took 20th place on the 1-meter with a score of 239.50. Young finished sixth in the individual point standings for the overall competition with 38.50 points.
Sophomore Tyler Jepsen posted a 35th place finish on the 1-meter (168.50) and a 34th place showing on the 3-meter (186.05).
