Kobayashi Places Sixth at National Championships

Yuen Kobayashi led the University of Minnesota swimmers with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle at the first day of the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships, held in Indianapolis. Kobayashi earned 13 points for Minnesota Aquatics when she clocked an Olympic Trials time of 8:43.09 and sixth overall. Kate Ziegler won the event in a time of 8:22.33. Gopher freestyler Christine Jennings also competed in the event with an Olympic Trials time of 8:49.57 and 21st overall.

Former Gopher Keri Hehn also competed on the first day, finishing fourth in the 200-meter breaststroke event. Hehn touched the wall in an Olympic Trials time of 2:28.53. Incoming freshman Molly Belk placed 33rd overall in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.49.

The national championships continue each day until Saturday.
