Gopher Relay FInishes Fifth at the Summer National Championships

The University of Minnesota women’s swim team earned a fifth-place finish in the 800 free relay, tonight, at the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships, held in Indianapolis. The relay of Jenny Shaughnessy, Yuen Kobayashi, Meredith McCarthy and Christine Jennings combined for a national qualifying time of 8:14.90 to finish fifth overall.
Roxane Akradi finished 10th overall in the 100-meter backstroke. Akradi clocked an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 1:03.05 in the consolation final and held a prelim time of 1:02.88 earlier in the day. She added seven points to the Minnesota Aquatics team total.
Former Gopher Keri Hehn added a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke with an Olympic qualifying time of 1:08.42, bettering her prelim time of 1:09.02.
Individually, Kobayashi just missed the C Final when she placed 27th overall in the 200 freestyle event with a time of 2:03.10.
The summer national championships finish its fifth and final day of competition tomorrow evening.
