Former Compliance Director Frank Kara honored

Frank Kara, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer this past summer will be honored for his years of service and dedication to Golden Gopher athletics. A member of the athletics department for 14 years, including the last seven as Director of Compliance, Kara was remembered in a ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The compliance office in the Bierman Athletic Building was renamed in his honor.
In this administrative role, he oversaw the compliance with NCAA, Big Ten and WCHA rules. In this capacity he educated various groups inside and outside the athletic departments and monitored and audited functions of coaches and departments. He was responsible for investigation and reporting of infractions within the University Athletic Department.
Kara received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University in 1990. He went on to attend the U of M Law School where he received his juris doctor in 1993, and began working for the Golden Gophers shortly thereafter. A native of Minneapolis, Minn., he is survived by his wife Denise and two daughters Sydney and Alexandra.
