Minnesota Baseball to Host Fall Game on Sept. 29

The Minnesota baseball team will host the annual fall intersquad game on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m. at Siebert Field. The Golden Gophers will split the full roster into two squads that will play against each other.
Prior to the game, former Golden Gopher standout and Minnesota’s Director of Compliance J.T. Bruett will throw out the first pitch.
Minnesota will return three All-Conference performers from 2007 in junior Kyle Carr (Second-Team Reliever 5-2, 3.95 ERA, 34 SO, 43.1 IP), junior Matt Nohelty (First-Team Outfield .367, 48 R, 24 SB) and junior Nate Hanson (First-Team Third Baseman - .338, 50 R, 10 HR, 51 RBI). Also returning is sophomore infielder Derek McCallum (.340, 24 R, 34 RBI), who was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team last year.
The Golden Gophers also return two of their top starting pitchers from last year in senior Dustin Brabender (5-1, 4.40 ERA, 39 SO, 77.2 IP) and junior Tom Buske (5-2, 3.43 ERA, 36 SO, 60.1 IP).
Last season, Minnesota was 41-18 overall and finished second in the Big Ten with an 18-9 conference record. The Golden Gophers advanced to the NCAA Regionals, where it defeated No. 4 San Diego and went 1-2. Minnesota joined Michigan and Ohio State in the NCAA Regionals, marking the most Big Ten teams to play in NCAA Regional play since 2000.
The Golden Gophers will open the season at Oxford, Miss. with a three-game series against Ole Miss on Feb. 22-24. Minnesota will also host a field that includes Pepperdine, TCU and Tulane at the Diet Coke Classic on Feb. 29-Mar. 2. The full 2008 schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks on gophersports.com.
