Steve Jackman was an 11-time All-American for the Golden Gophers from 1961-63. In addition, Jackman won six NCAA and eight Big Ten gold medals. Jackman won the 1961 NCAA title in the 100-yard freestyle, setting the U.S. record in the process. He also won a pair of NCAA titles in the 50-yard freestyle in 1962 and 1963 as well, with times of 21.1 and 21.2, respectively, and was named "Fastest Man in the World." In addition, he also took a pair of titles in the 100-yard freestyle in 1961 and 1962 too, with times of 48.5 and 47.5, respectively. Furthermore, he anchored the NCAA Champion 400-yard medley relay team in 1963, which finished in 3:35.2 as well as the NCAA Champion 400-yard freestyle relay team in 1962, which finished 3:15.9. Among his many honors and accolades, Dr. Jackman was inducted into the U of M Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1986.
