Series Notes
-Minnesota narrowed its deficit in the all-time series to 31-17.
-The Gophers beat the Spartans for the second time this season, having won by a 74-63 score in East Lansing on December 28.
-Coach Pam Borton moved within four wins of her 200th career coaching victory. Borton is now 196-101 all-time.
-This afternoon’s win marks the first time since the 1993-94 campaign that Minnesota has swept MSU in the season series.
Team Notes
-The Gophers’ Emily Fox (29), Katie Ohm (17), Leslie Knight (13) and Ashley Ellis-Milan (12) all finished in double figures. Minnesota is 7-1 this season when four Gophers score in double figures.
-Although Minnesota entered the week as the Big Ten’s poorest free throw shooting team, the Gophers finished the game 24 of 29 (82.8%) from the charity stripe. -The 24 made free throws second most for Minnesota this season, second only to a 30 for 37 performance at Charlotte on December 2.
-The Gophers finished the game with 15 team assists. In game where Minnesota has at least that many assists this season, they are 7-1.
Individual Notes
-Minnesota’s Katie Ohm matched career-highs with 17 points and five three-point field goals. Ohm also scored 17 against Kentucky on November 23.
-Ohm started this afternoon’s game for the second time this season.
-Emily Fox was one point shy of a career-high with 29 points. The junior guard has scored in double-figures in 20 of the Gophers’ 21 contests this season.
-Minnesota is 4-1 this season when Fox scores 20 or more points.
-Brittany McCoy dished out six assists. The Gophers’ are 13-1 this season when McCoy scores in double figures or notches at least five assists.
-Leslie Knight scored 12 points to notch her 15th contest in double-figures this season and her 11th consecutively.
-Ashley Ellis-Milan (12 points) was in double-figures for the 14th time this season in spite of missing much of the second half due to foul trouble. The sophomore was limited to 22 minutes in this afternoon’s game.
-Kay Sylva collected a career-best five rebounds during a career-high 17 minutes off the bench for the Gophers.
