Gopher Recap at the Four Nation's Cup

The University of Minnesota was well represented at the 2008 Four Nation's Cup, Nov. 4-9, in Lake Placid, N.Y. The current and former Gophers helped Team USA win the gold medal in a shootout win over Team Canada on Sunday.Team USA won 5-2 over Sweden, fell 4-2 to Canada, won 4-1 to Finland and won 3-2 in the shootout for the gold.
Minnesota representatives were current members Rachael Drazan, Gigi Marvin, Jocelyne Lamoureux and Anne Schleper, while former Gophers Natalie Darwitz (Gopher assistant coach) and Erica McKenzie all saw time against Sweden, Finland and Canada during the tournament. McKenzie sealed the gold medal when she scored the game-winning goal during the fourth-round of the shootout. Marvin and Darwitz finished the tournament tied for second in points with four. Darwitz had three goals and an assist, while Marvin led the USA in assists with four. Drazan tacked on three assists in the opening game against Sweden, while Lamoureux had a goal against Sweden. Although she didn't get in the scorebook, Schleper saw action in every game for the the Red, White and Blue.
Gopher head coach Brad frost served as an assistant coach to Team USA, while Gopher equipment manager Kate Anderson assisted with the team during the tournament as well.
The Golden Gophers resume action, Nov. 14-15 as they travel to Bemidji, Minn., to take on the Bemidji State Beavers. Minnesota's next home action comes against Minnesota State, Nov. 21-22 at Ridder Arena.
