Minnesota Men's Golf Program Signs Two

The University of Minnesota men’s golf program announced today that Shang “Ken” Zhi and Jon Trasamar have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the team as freshmen for the 2009-10 campaign.
“Jon and Shang are great additions to our program,” said Associate Head Coach Andrew Tank. “They are both dedicated to exploring how good they can become and we look forward to helping them reach their full potential.”
Zhi, a native of China, has spent the past three years at the David Leadbetter IMG Academy. He is ranked 157th in the most recent Golfweek Junior Rankings and is the 84th ranked player in the Class of 2009. In 2006, he captured the China Junior Championship and was also a member of the Chinese National Junior Team. Zhi comes to the Twin Cities with a stroke average of 74.72.
Trasamar attends Blue Earth Area High School in Blue Earth, Minn., where he is a National Honor Society member. He is a three-time All-State selection, a three-time All-South Central Conference selection as well as a two-time conference and three-time section champion.
Trasamar has earned a total of six varsity letters entering his senior season at BEA and holds school records for lowest state tournament Finish (2nd), best total at the state tournament (148), individual section titles (3), season scoring average (36.4), medalists won in a season (13) and a career (43). Trasamar enters his senior season with a career scoring average of 74.5.
