Head diving coach Jason Baumann has announced that Kathryn Grunawalt (Granger, Ind.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Gopher program next fall.

Grunawalt competes with Penn High School, which is in the Northern Indiana Conference. As a junior last year, Grunawalt placed second in the conference and 13th at the state championships. She also finished third overall in the conference as a sophomore and 21st at state. She holds the high school record with a score of 425 for 11 dives and has been an all-conference selection. Competing with her club diving team, the Double Dragon Dive Club and coach Caiming Xie, Grunawalt has also competed at the Junior Nationals. She enters her senior year with best score of 286.9 in the 3-meter.

"I am very excited for Katie to join our team and become a Golden Gopher," Baumann said. "She has only begun to reach her potential. Katie is very excited to learn and improve, and build on her experience from the USA Diving Age-Group Nationals and the Senior Preliminaries last summer. I know she is excited to get up on platform and train."

“I am very excited to be attending the University of Minnesota next fall,” Grunawalt said. “There are many reasons why I chose this excellent university. One of the main reasons was how nice and welcoming the people were. I felt right at home when I visited and I’m glad that I will have that chance to get to know everyone.”
