Lamoureux Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

Monique Lamoureux has been named this week’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Rookie of the Week for her point production against Minnesota State last weekend. It is Lamoureux’s third rookie of the week honor this season and the Gophers’ fifth WCHA weekly award this year.

Lamoureux led Minnesota with seven points, scoring three goals and four assists. On Friday, Lamoureux scored the game-winning, short-handed goal to lead the Gophers to a 2-1 win. On Saturday, the freshman from Grand Forks, N.D. contributed on every Minnesota goal when she scored two goals and four assists in the 6-3 win over MSU. She was one point shy of the school record of seven set in 2000 by Nadine Muzerall. In the series, Lamoureux had a team-high 16 shots, and a plus/minus rating of +7. On the season, Lamoureux leads the team with 23 points and is tied for first on the team in goals (10) and assists (13). She also leads the team with a +20 rating.

Lamoureux and the rest of the Golden Gophers will take on No. 9 Harvard, this weekend at Ridder Arena. Friday’s game is set for 6:07 p.m., while Sunday’s game is slated for a 4:07 p.m. start. The Harvard series is the last home series of the 2008 calendar year and will host its next home competition on Jan. 16-17 against Bemidji State.
