Jillian Tyler has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference office today. Tyler's award comes after a great performance against No. 16 North Carolina last weekend.
Tyler went a perfect 5-for-5 in event wins in a 217-151 dual meet victory against No. 16 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. The sophomore from Calgary, Alb., earned NCAA consideration times in the 100- and 200-yard breastroke, timing in at 1:00.72 and 2:11.73, respectively. Her final individual win was in the 200 individual medley as she clocked a 2:01.69. All three individuals races were meet records. The Canadian also swam a leg on the winning 200 (1:42.15) and 400 medley relay squads (3:43.16), which were also meet records against the Tar Heels. This is Tyler's third weekly honor and the Gophers' second of the week.
Minnesota hosts Iowa this weekend at the University Aquatic Center. The event is Minnesota's attempt to 'Pack the Pool' as the Golden Gophers will sign autographs and give away free items throughout the course of the meet. The event, which features both the men's and women's programs, begins at 5 p.m.
