Minnesota freshman forward Jordan Schroeder has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Rookie of the Week following his five-point weekend against Minnesota State.
The Prior Lake, Minn. native assisted all three of the Gophers’ goals in Friday’s 3-3 tie at Mariucci Arena and then tallied his first two career goals, both on the power play, to spark Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Mavericks at the Xcel Energy Center. Schroeder also won 24 of his 29 faceoff attempts in Friday’s game and 31 of 45 chances for the weekend.
With two goals and six assists this season, Schroeder is the leading scorer among all rookie players in NCAA Division I hockey that have played at least four games. He ranks second on the Minnesota team in scoring.
Minnesota is 4-0-2 and off to its best start since 2001-02. The Gophers are ranked fourth in the country and host fifth-ranked New Hampshire in a two-game series Friday and Saturday at Mariucci Arena.
