The WCHA has announced that Gigi Marvin was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while Monique Lamoureux was named the WCHA Co-Rookie of the Week after a stellar performance against North Dakota last weekend.

Marvin led No. 2-ranked Golden Gophers to a WCHA series road sweep over North Dakota last weekend when she scored four goals. Last Friday night (Dec. 5) in Grand Forks, N.D., Marvin scored the game-winning goal at 13:41 of the first period on one of her two shots in the game en route to a 4-0 victory. Then last Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon, Marvin scored her first-career hat trick when she led the Gophers in a come-from-behind 5-2 win over UND. Marvin scored the Gophers’ first goal to tie the game in the first period. After both teams scored another goal, Marvin followed with her second game-winner of the series at 7:11 in the third and then netted a hat trick on an empty-net attempt at 19:16. Marvin had 10 previous games in which she had scored two goals prior to her hat trick accomplishment. On the weekend, Marvin held a .500 shooting percentage scoring four goals on just eight shots attempted. Through 18 games played in the 2008-09 season, Marvin ranks second among her teammates in point scoring with 22, on 14 goals and eight assists. Over his 132 game career at UM, she has 71-89160.

Lamoureux, a freshman forward, led Minnesota in scoring with three goals and two assists for five points in a conference series. Last Friday, Lamoureux scored a goal and two assists to help the Gophers to a 4-0 shutout win. She assisted on the game-winning goal and a power-play goal and then followed with a goal of her own on a shorthanded attempt, her third short-handed goal of the season. Last Saturday, Lamoureux came through in the clutch when she tied the game at 2-2 at the beginning of the third period. Lamoureux’s goal was the game-changer as she helped jumpstart the Minnesota offense to four goals in the period. She followed with her second goal of the game at 18:49 to give Minnesota a 4-2 lead. Not only did Lamoureux lead the Gophers in scoring, she held a +4 rating and ranked second in shots (9). She shared her award with Wisconsin freshman Brooke Ammerman.
