Bowl Blog: Winding Down

The final actual practice prior to the Insight Bowl is in the books for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Tuesday, the team will head to Sun Devil Stadium for a walk-through prior to Wednesday's contest with the Kansas Jayhawks.

In Monday's workout, the Gophers were in "spider pads," meaning there was little to no contact involved. Minnesota spent Monday's practice honing their game plan and working on how they will attack Kansas come Wednesday afternoon/evening. Or as head coach Tim Brewster likes to put it, the Gophers spent Monday "sharpening the blade."

Following Monday's practice, Coach Brewster headed to the home offices of Insight Enterprises, the title sponsor of the Insight Bowl. By all accounts Brewster hit a home run with the nearly 500 employees he spoke to during a brief visit to the Insight offices. Pictures of that event, along with images of Monday's practice, can be found by clicking the Photo Album link above.

Following his visit to Insight Enterprises, Coach Brewster returned to the team hotel for a meeting with representatives from the NFL Network, who will call the game Wednesday. Speaking of the Insight Bowl telecast on the NFL Network, don't forget you can watch the game in the Twin Cities area on Comcast Channel 180. Comcast accepted an offer to air a 24-hour free preview of the network. The free preview includes the national cablecast of the Insight Bowl and will be available to all Comcast customers who subscribe to at least the “Digital Starter” tier of service, which currently includes 65 percent of expanded basic households.

Tuesday will be a light day for the Gopher players, as they will rest their bodies, watch a great deal of film and review the game plan. Coach Brewster and senior captains Steve Davis and Willie VanDeSteeg will take part in a pre-bowl press conference first thing Tuesday morning. Those three will then join the remainder of the squad and coaching staff at Sun Devil Stadium on the Arizona State University campus for the team walk-through.

Keeping with tradition on the night before an afternoon or night game, the team will catch a movie Tuesday night.

More from Tempe here on the Bowl Blog tomorrow. We'll have a report from the press conference and walk-through.
